
Perhaps best known for his run as the space bar proprietor Quark on the series “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” from 1993 to 1999, Armin Shimerman’s Lakewood childhood followed him all the way to the stars.
In an interview with the Asbury Park Press, Shimerman discussed how memories of his Ocean County youth in the 1950s and ’60s influenced his depiction of the character, dramatically shaping the course of his career.
“I’m sure that when they bury me, whether I end up in Lakewood or not, it will say Quark on the tombstone, it won’t say Armin. I’m happy about that. I created an iconographic character that every actor hopes one day to create,” said Shimerman.
